A Year in Review 2017

2017 was crazy for us! There were a few significant changes in our lives, and we did our best to embrace them. First, as is tradition, let me start with our top 10 movie list.

We watched roughly 59 movies in the theater this year. This number is a bit lower than past years, but I also know I lost a good handful of our movie stubs at some point in the summer. Here are our top 10 in no particular order:

1. Jumanji
2. Thor Ragnarok
3. Wonder Woman
4. Guardians of the Galaxy 2
5. The Lost City of Z
6. Hidden Figures
7. Lion
8. Battle of the Sexes
9. The Man Who Invented Christmas
10. Coco

Honorable Mentions:
Gifted
The Greatest Showman

January
I had surgery in January which resulted in my being diagnosed with a chronic illness and having my appendix removed. You can read more about that here.

Because of the surgery, January was a low key month for us. We spent a lot of time at home, and two days were spent watching the entire Fast and Furious franchise from beginning to end.

February
My first infusion treatment for my Crohn's Disease was on Valentine's Day.

I drove to my mom's house on her birthday and surprised her.

We made delicious food for the Super Bowl!

March
We went to a soccer game with friends and had exclusive seats thanks to our awesome realtor.

We celebrated Jake's birthday with good food and a trip to Vegas.

I had a nice proper English Tea with my mom.

I started my own business!

April
We went to the Tulip Festival for the first time.

I invented my very own brownie recipe! You can find it here.

May
We celebrated my birthday by going to the Lantern Festival in Tooele.

I lost a vein at one of my infusions (the nurse accidentally blew through it when inserting the needle and we haven't been able to use it since).

June
We spent a few days with our nephews and took them camping for their very first time before they moved to Alaska.

I spent a weekend with my girlfriends in Southern Utah.

We went to Lake Tahoe for a family reunion (my side).

July
We went to the Deer Valley Symphony to see Leslie Odom Jr.

My good friend came up this way for work and we went to Top Golf for the first time.

We also went to Colorado for our nephew's pool birthday party.

August
I spent a week touring the Parade of Homes with Jake and with friends for work.

We went to the soccer game and enjoyed the fireworks afterwards.

I went on my annual beach trip!

September
Mostly uneventful for us. We went to a U.S. Soccer game.

October
We went to a pumpkin patch for work.

Went on our annual fall drive twice, because the first time we didn't even get all the way up the mountain before we were covered in snow.

We went to Pumpkin Nights for the first time with friends.

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary! We will be going to Panama and Costa Rica in February for our official anniversary trip.

November
We had Thanksgiving with my family at my mom's house, and we dog sat for my friend that weekend.

December
We went to the World Speed Skating races on a whim one afternoon.

We celebrated Christmas at home and with Jake's family this year.

Even though the year started out a bit rocky for us with my surgery and Crohn's diagnosis, we made the most of every opportunity we were given to enjoy life. We're thankful for all of our dear friends and our family; they supported us so much this year. We are enjoying 2018 so far and looking forward to all it will bring!
